The Pooch parlour is based in Huddersfield where dog grooming is taught at college, producing some fantastic newbie groomers. Dog grooming however is not for everybody. It is a very rewarding, creative job, but it is also hard work and very unglamorous. Before I started training I had an idealistic idea of what dog grooming was going to be like (you know? playing with puppies, grooming dogs who just stood there, giving dogs facials and manicures) and then I was thrown in to the reality of the career. My first day of training the bather and both groomers were bitten by a bitch in season, and then bathing and drying a Giant Schnauzer who was throwing his weight around.
I have taken people on work experience in the past and very few have stuck with it. So I have decided to offer Dog Grooming Taster Days. One of these days is most suited to someone thinking of dog grooming as a career, but has never been to a salon, or someone about to sign up for a dog grooming course to help decide if dog grooming is for you and before wasting money a course.
The taster day will have hands-on parts and will show you what a usual day in the life of a dog groomer is like. The day is £50.00.
